Climate Screens

Svensson
With Svensson's PARperfect climate screen, the shade level in the greenhouse can be adjusted continuously, from 20 to 100%, just like a light dimmer. The solution is based on a combination of screens, of which there are at least two. The bottom screen is the PARperfect climate screen.

The high diffusivity of PARperfect ensures that the light is evenly distributed over the plants. This ensures that the crop always receives the correct radiation. PARperfect is ideal for all crops that need to be protected from the bright sun in the summer.

Ways to a better climate

The harmonious approach to better growing

Before Harmony came along, light diffusion was seen as a way to protect the upper parts of sensitive plants from overheating without slowing down production too much. Then, with its high-grade light diffusion, Harmony took the concept a step further. And now, all sorts of growers are discovering how the gentle approach to managing sunlight means healthier plants and accelerated production.

Where and when you might expect to find Harmony

Many Harmony screens have an open structure improving their cooling and shading performance, especially in greenhouses with vents. But some have a closed structure. In the evening this slows down any sudden loss of greenhouse heat and reduces the risk of condensation on the crop. And at night, it saves energy.

One thing all Harmony screens have in common is the high grade of light diffusion generated by their white strips. This means Harmony has become popular among growers of various crops in many different climates.

‘‘You can feel the difference in the quality of light’’

Every Svensson screen is identified with four digits – the first two express its shading level, the second two its energy saving value.

You’ll find detailed information about all the screens on our website.

The benefits of Harmony

  • High grade light diffusion actively scatters the sunlight to reach deeper – and more evenly – into the crop.
  • Less risk of burning and more light exposure at a cooler temperature.
  • Improved productivity and stronger healthier plants due to more even light distribution to upper and lower sections of the crop.
  • A gentle and effective environment not only for plants – but also the people working in the greenhouse.
  • Increased crop quality due to lower temperature of the fruit or flower.

What else you can expect from a Svensson climate screen

  • A long service life – thanks to their resistance to harsh temperatures, Ultraviolet light and the chemicals often used inside greenhouses.
  • Small bundle sizes – thanks to our unique knitting techniques. This means that sliding screens from Svensson are easy to handle and don’t block out as much light when you fold them away.
  • Favorable humidity control – this means that condensation is less likely to form on the underside of an indoor screen and less likely to drop on your plants. So fungal diseases are less of a problem.
  • A variety of flame retardancy levels – many of these meet the industry’s highest fire safety standards.

Precious sleep for plants – or neighbors

The double layered Obscura screen has been giving plants a good night’s rest for over 20 years. It does this by providing total blackout from daylight – up to 99.9 percent. And in the last ten years, single layer Obscura has been preventing supplemental lighting from escaping greenhouses at night. This lets neighbors get a good night’s sleep and complies with industry legislation.

In both cases, the unique knitted structure provides good moisture managing properties.

Twice as versatile

The double layer also allows more options as the top and bottom of the screen can have different surfaces. Aluminium on the top, for example, provides the greatest energy saving at night, whereas white provides better cooling in sunny weather. White is also useful as a bottom layer for intensifying light inside the greenhouse, whereas black is better for absorbing and restricting interior light.

Where and when you can expect to find Obscura

For short-day plants, such as chrysanthemum, Obscura is ideal for delivering flowers in bloom – on time – for important market dates. Obscura is also popular where supplemental lighting is needed and night time light emission is a problem. This has now proven to be a good investment, as the intensified lighting increases productivity.

‘‘The lower temperature beneath Obscura is my competitive advantage’’

Every Svensson screen is identified with four digits – the first two express its shading level, the second two its energy saving value.

You’ll find detailed information about all the screens on our website.

The benefits of Obscura

  • Total control over day length for the most sensitive plants.
  • Effective cooling when a reflective upper surface is chosen.
  • High energy saving, especially if one layer is aluminium.
  • Light emission control that satisfies neighbors and legislation.
  • Increased productivity when used with supplemental lighting.
  • More uniformity from supplemental lighting in the growing area.
  • Good moisture management.

The single greatest energy saver

The Tempa formula of using aluminium strips in a closed screen structure has been saving energy by night and shading by day since the 1970s. Today it provides the highest energy saving value at any given shading level. In this way it’s a single screen solution with dual purposes. It also reduces condensation when there is a sudden temperature drop, to avoid damage to plants.

Where and when you can expect to find Tempa

Due to its dual purposes – shading by day and energy saving by night – Tempa is ideal in moderate climates and in greenhouses where perhaps many crop varieties will be grown throughout the year. Tempa is also found in greenhouses with side ventilation, as it then provides excellent cooling for the plants below it.

‘‘This screen pays for itself both day and night’’

Every Svensson screen is identified with four digits – the first two express its shading level, the second two its energy saving value.

You’ll find detailed information about all the screens on our website.

The benefits of Tempa

  • The greatest energy savings at any given shading level.
  • Doubles up as an effective shading screen by day.
  • A more even temperature throughout the greenhouse when used with a pad and fan cooling system.
  • A single-screen solution for shading, cooling and maximum energy saving.
  • Maximum cooling when installed above plants in a greenhouse with side ventilation.

Econet Insect Control

Excluding pests from growing areas is the most effective insect control method. Keep harmful insects outside the greenhouse and useful insects inside with Econet insect control screens.

Insect control with maximum ventilation

Made with fine yarns that effectively increase airflow capacity, Econetallows for maximum ventilation without compromising insect control. Available in different hole sizes, Econet provides a secure barrier against even the smallest insects.

All Svensson insect screens are sold with hole sizes based on measurements taken from real insects. Thanks to the uniform weaving process, hole sizes are consistent across the entire screen.

Designed for exceptional performance and long service life, Econet is UV stable and highly resistant – providing a durable insect control solution.

Groundcover & Weed Control

A groundcover provides a clean surface to walk on while keeping the soil free from weeds. It is strong, durable and permeable to water.

Black Groundcover

Black groundcover is used outside for stopping weeds from growing. It also reduces the need of herbicide.

White Groundcover

White groundcover is for use inside the greenhouse as it reflects the light.

Variable Screens

The position of the screens is continuously adjusted based on the intensity of the sunlight. As a result, the light level at crop level can be kept constant regardless of the season and/or the time of day. The special feature of this is that, thanks to the very high diffusivity of PARperfect, the light distribution at crop level is optimal. Every plant receives an equal amount of light. This variable screening is done based on a PAR light control in the climate computer. Svensson’s consultants assist growers by explaining and implementing the system in the climate computer.

Advantages

The - now proven - PARperfect solution offers several advantages: every plant receives exactly the right light level, under all circumstances. Secondly, a higher PAR sum of natural light is possible. Direct sunlight on the crop is excluded, which prevents crop damage. This results in greater uniformity, crop acceleration, product quality and fewer hours of assimilation lighting, ultimately creating lower costs.
